AIR’S “Perfect Pitch” at the Third Coast Festival 2008

AIR will host the “Perfect Pitch” session at the Third Coast International Audio Festival taking place in Evanston, IL October 9-11. This is a popular session AIR has carried over for the last several years that “pulls back the veil” on an exchange that is typically done in private – between and editor and a producer bringing a new story idea.

Veteran journalist and author Neenah Ellis will host and moderate two “pitch” panels, one on Friday and a second on Saturday. We’ll choose about a dozen producers who will have a chance to perfect their skills by pitching a story to an experienced editor in front of the assembled group. The editor and producer spend about 10 minutes in discussion. Those who come only to observe learn the “art of the pitch” by hearing producers of differing levels of experience talking with editors from programs that have a range of styles and needs. If you are interested in participating, we need to hear from you by Friday, September 26th.

How to participate:
Have a look at the editors and programs below. You’ll find bios, and – importantly – details of what each program is looking for in a feature story. Please email your pitch proposal to Neenah at:  pitch(a)airmedia.org. DO NOT SEND YOUR PITCHES TO THE EDITORS. Put in the subject line "AIR Perfect Pitch." Include these things:

  1. Which program/producer you are pitching to.

  2. A concise and elegantly-worded description of your story idea – under 200 words.

  3. A clear and thoughtful description of how it will sound, what audio elements you will include.

  4. Whether you have more than five years experience or less than five.

  5. Your contact info - before and during the conference.
